This program seeks to produce competent professionals who are equipped with artistic & creative knowledge and skills, which enables them to contribute to the development of the country. Students admitted to the program are required to take and pass the delivered courses and carry out senior project research in Fashion design. A minimum of 24 credit hours and thesis work are required for graduation. For Graduation, the candidate should score a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 in the course work, and a "pass" grade in the MSc thesis work. Upon completing the program, a graduate is supposed to demonstrate an understanding of a range of concepts and issues in fashion design; enable to engage in effective scientific communication in a professional setting, including technical writing, oral presentation, and use of available technology; interact professionally with others having different cultural backgrounds, education levels, and interests.
There is no fashion design curriculum, at Masters Level, in the country. In the present scenario, there is a great demand for a professional equipped with knowledge and skills in fashion design and production. This has been ascertained by the need assessment carried out by the institute. With this regard, The Ethiopian Institute of Textile and Fashion Technology (EiTEX) is going to open up a new program in Fashion Design at a Masters level.
The students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to be appointed senior Fashion Designer, Fashion Photographer, couturier, Stylist, Sourcing Manager, Fashion Entrepreneur, and Project manager in a fashion Business, company Manager, Entrepreneurs, etc. The program fulfills the long-felt needs of the Ethiopian fashion and Garment sector which is in dire need of experienced and well-trained personnel for the augmentation of quality and productivity, which at present is quite poor. Currently, the institute is organized into the fashion design department running Masters of in fashion design program and also this program first and the only available in Ethiopia. The program fulfills the requirement of qualified and creative personals in the area of design, which is unexploited and nearly absent for a long period in the Ethiopian fashion and garment industry.
The Fashion Design program prepares students from diverse backgrounds to be fashion innovators by providing a professional environment in which students learn by working in tandem with top designers.

Admission criteria:
Applicants should satisfy the following minimum requirements:
- Bachelor of Science (B. Sc),
- Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.),
- Bachelor of Art (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degrees Garment Engineering/Technology,
- Fashion design or related fields with not less than 3 years of study; or documented equivalents thereof.
Equivalency will be evaluated at the discretion of the program administration, based on the entrance exam, academic achievements, and profile, as well as pertinent professional experience.
Academic backgrounds in disciplines/professions relevant to the study major of interest, and are required to substantiate their keen interest in continuing their careers in areas relevant to Fashion design from a recognized higher education institution. Other entrance requirements of BDU legislation should also be met.
