B.Sc in Fashion Design
Fashion design is a profession that deals with the application of art, scientific and technological principles to the design of fashion products. These include interactions of materials for product development in fashion design.
The tasks, which professional in fashion design undertake, are too many to list them all. Some of the typical tasks the professionals are expected to deal with are:
Fashion design, fasent, manufacturing and finishing
Pattern engineering and apparel manufacturing
Fashion merchandizing, fashion styling and modelling
Fashion promotion and marketing
Fashion design profession can be acquired and mastered by graduates who are well educated to enter to and dedicated to continue growing in the profession. An undergraduate fashion design program meant to produce such graduates with sufficiently broad and deep base of fashion design systems, machineries, control systems, excellent knowledge in product development and manufacturing technologies supported by extensive practical exercises and industrial internship, sufficient practices in the use of computers and applications of software related to the field, sufficient knowledge of management concepts and communication skills etc.
Professional fashion designers can have professional titles as head level in rendering various services in textile and apparel sectors engaged in fashion design and in related institutions such as research institutions.
The program will have duration of 4 academic years with courses covering the Fashion Design Disciplines. The program has been designed to produce fashion designers who are well-grounded in the fashion design skills that required by the fashion Industry.
The students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to be appointed as Patternmaker, Assistant Designer, Assistant Wardrober, Computer Marker Maker, Costume Intern, Freelance Design/Patternmaker, Specification Writer etc.
The program fulfils the long-felt needs of the Ethiopian fashion and Garment Industry which is in dire need of experienced and well-trained personnel for the augmentation of quality and productivity, which at present is quite poor.
